THE BERNARDIN CENTER

The vision of Cardinal Bernardin is the same as that of the Second Vatican Council–a vision of a church renewed, a church that mirrors the compassion of Jesus.

Shortly before he died, Cardinal Bernardin approved the establishment of a center in his name at CTU that would continue to build upon his vision of the church. In 1997, Catholic Theological Union created the Joseph Cardinal Bernardin Center for Theology and Ministry, as a tribute to this longtime friend and honorary alumnus of CTU.

Today the Bernardin Center educates men and women, religious and lay, to minister in the spirit of Vatican II. Through innovative academic training and with the aid of generous scholarships, Bernardin Scholars focus on the signature issues of the Cardinal’s vision: reconciliation, interreligious dialogue, healthcare, peacemaking, and Common Ground.
